Amad Diallo’s return to Manchester United has been marked by frustration, as he has yet to start a Premier League match since rejoining the team. Speculation about his future has increased after he removed all mentions of Manchester United from his social media profiles on platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
Having recovered from a knee injury in December, the 21-year-old has only made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season. Despite impressing on loan at Sunderland last season, where he scored 14 goals in 43 matches, Diallo was expected to compete for a starting position at United this season.
However, a knee injury during pre-season sidelined Diallo for nearly five months, until the 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest on December 30. He has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup, with manager Erik ten Hag favoring other players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford.
Diallo’s frustration with his lack of playing time has become evident, leading him to erase all references to Manchester United from his social media accounts. Despite being linked with a return to Sunderland during the January transfer window, Diallo remained at Old Trafford.
On social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, Diallo altered his bio and removed most of his posts, leaving only images from his time at Sunderland. Additionally, it appears that he temporarily deactivated his accounts, citing a need to focus on Ramadan and avoid negativity on social media.
Upon his return to action in December, Erik ten Hag praised Diallo’s abilities and suggested that he would have more opportunities to showcase his talent. The Dutch manager highlighted Diallo’s ball security and offensive skills as valuable assets to the team.
Manchester United’s upcoming FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool presents an opportunity for Diallo to feature on the pitch and potentially make an impact.
