VAR’made a mistake’ for Liverpool’s goal in Leicester’s triumph, leaving spectators perplexed.
There was some discussion about Liverpool player Curtis Jones’ second goal against Leicester.
Some Premier League fans were perplexed on Monday night as Liverpool’s second goal against Leicester was allowed despite Curtis Jones seeming to be offside on the VAR replay. In the first half, Jones smashed a dipping half-volley past Daniel Iversen to put Liverpool up 2-0, but several spectators felt the goal should have been called out for offside.
And that was due to a VAR error. When the officials first checked to see if Jones was offside, they paused the game and drew the lines that showed the Liverpool midfielder was definitely beyond the last defender.
However, the VAR Chris Kavanagh instantly realized he had drawn the lines at the incorrect time. He’d done it when Cody Gakpo passed the ball to Mohamed Salah, rather than when Salah passed it to Jones.
Sky Sports did not display it at the time, instead switching to a camera shot of referee Craig Pawson. When the lines were drawn correctly, it was revealed that Jonny Evans’ heel played Jones very narrowly onside.

That meant Liverpool immediately extended their lead at the King Power Stadium, yet it did not stop the debate on social media, with many incorrectly insisting the goal should not have stood. At halftime, the host club, who is facing relegation to the Championship, was booed off by their own fans.
After that, Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a magnificent free-kick to make it seven wins in a row for Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League-chasing team. After the game, Alexander-Arnold heaped accolades on fellow Scouser Jones.
The right-back told Sky Sports: “It’s not just been tonight [that he’s stepped up], I think [it’s] since he came into the team again. He’s a lad who obviously would have wanted to play more throughout the whole season.
“But he has stepped up when he has got his chance and I think that’s all you can do. He has shown his quality on and off the ball. And he has definitely impressed everyone.
“He has set standards for himself and we need to keep that as a team and himself, he has got a level now that he needs to hit every game. Today was an outstanding night for him and helped the team win the game.”
Meanwhile, Klopp, his manager, stated, “He improved a lot, so I think a lot of things came together.” You should keep in mind that he is still a young lad, and he used to play great games for us a few years back. Then he went through a terrible period with injuries.
“This year was especially bad. He could watch a lot of football, he could understand the game better and it looks really like that. Both goals were absolutely exceptional. I am not sure they were real chances.
“First with the left foot, a similar goal to the last goal he scored [vs Tottenham]. The second one is a super finish. He is in a good moment, really cool.”
