Ten Hag holds ‘secret meeting’ with Bundesliga star’s agent with Man Utd ‘serious’ about transfer
Ten Hag conducts a “secret meeting” with the agent of a Bundesliga player, with Manchester United “serious” about a trade.
According to rumors, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag spoke with the agent of Borussia Dortmund striker Marco Reus ahead of a potential deal.
The Red Devils are having a strong season this season, with Ten Hag bouncing back from a poor start, losing his first two matches against Brighton and Brentford, to lead Man Utd to 12 wins in their following 17 Premier League games.
This puts them comfortably in the top four, one point clear of fourth-placed Newcastle, three points behind arch-rivals Manchester City, who are second, and eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Man Utd spent over £200m in the summer to help Ten Hag get his own players in with some fans and pundits raising their eyebrows at huge sums spent on Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez.
However, the majority of his signings have proven everyone wrong with their performances, and Ten Hag is aiming to bolster his squad once more during the summer transfer window.
Wout Weghorst, who has arrived on loan from Burnley until the end of the season, is their lone addition in the January transfer window so far, and rumours suggest that they will just bring in loan signings until making a push in the summer.
And one player who may join United at the conclusion of the season is Dortmund attacker Reus, whose contract expires in June.
Reus has been at Dortmund for over a decade, having joined from another Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 scoring 156 goals in 368 appearances in all competitions.
And Bild journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had a “secret discussion” with Reus’ agent Dirk Hebel about a possible summer move.
“Manchester United is an option for Marco Reus,” Falk wrote in his Caught Offside blog. I heard a meeting between his agent, Dirk Hebel, and Erik ten Hag; they discussed Reus, and Erik appeared interested. They’ll have to wait and see what happens in the summer, but he’s a potential free agent possibility.
“Erik is familiar with Marco’s quality, so this will be serious. No decision yet, of course.
“I heard also that Hebel had talks with Manchester City – these weren’t particularly concrete, as City feel the player is too old.
“Secondly, Hebel then travelled to London, so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of any links in future between Reus and clubs based in the English capital.”
