Takehiro Tomiyasu Commits to Arsenal with New Contract Signing
According to a report, Arsenal’s defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium. Despite recurring injury issues, the Japan international remains highly regarded by both Arsenal fans and manager Mikel Arteta.
Tomiyasu had a productive first half of the season, contributing one goal and three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions. He showcased his versatility by excelling in various defensive roles, including right-back and left-back, after impressing as a center-back during his time at Bologna. However, he has been sidelined since Arsenal’s New Year’s Eve defeat to Fulham due to an injury sustained during the Asian Cup.
Nevertheless, Tomiyasu’s latest injury setback isn’t expected to keep him out for an extended period, and Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, has prioritized securing an improved deal for him based on his strong performances earlier in the season. The new contract is reportedly set to increase Tomiyasu’s wages to £100,000 per week, doubling his current salary of £50,000 per week.
Tomiyasu, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2025, was previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur before joining Arsenal in the summer of 2021. Since then, he has made 73 appearances for the club, scoring once and providing six assists.
Additionally, it’s reported that another Arsenal full-back, Ben White, is close to agreeing on a contract extension. Despite his existing deal running until 2026, White is set for an improved agreement, reflecting his contributions since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Under Edu’s initiative, Arsenal has been proactive in securing long-term contracts for key players, with seven players, including Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli, extending their stays at the club since last term.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is preparing for a London derby against Brentford, with Aaron Ramsdale expected to start in goal due to David Raya’s ineligibility. Ramsdale, who has been second choice behind Raya, is likely to seek a move elsewhere in the summer. However, Arsenal is optimistic about the fitness of Saka and Martinelli, although Jurrien Timber remains sidelined with an ACL injury.
A victory for Arsenal against Brentford could see them temporarily climb to the top of the Premier League table before the clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at Anfield.
