Sadio Mane might return to Liverpool after Bayern Munich ‘placed three players up for sale’.
Sadio Mane might make a surprise comeback to Liverpool between now and the conclusion of the season, according to reports.
According to rumours, Sadio Mane might make a romantic return to Liverpool barely a year after leaving the Reds to join Bayern Munich on a three-year contract. Mane has had a difficult first season in Germany despite helping Bayern win yet another Bundesliga title, with Thomas Tuchel’s team edging off Borussia Dortmund on the penultimate day of the season.
Following his altercation with teammate Leroy Sane in April, the former Liverpool winger’s long-term future at the Allianz Arena has been called into question in recent months, leading to suspicion that Mane’s days at Bayern are already numbered. He appears to be open for a move abroad in the coming weeks, with AS stating that he is one of three players placed on the transfer list ahead of the summer window.
According to reports, Mane, Sane, and Serge Gnabry will be permitted to leave the club before the start of the next season, with Bayern anxious to cut their overcrowded first-team squad in the coming months. Mane ‘may return to Liverpool’ after only one year away, according to the article, with the Reds reportedly anxious to welcome him back after missing out on Champions League qualification in his absence.
Mane was one of the most feared players in the Premier League during his time at Liverpool, where he was a key member of one of the strongest offensive trios in recent years, alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. It remains to be seen if he will return to Anfield before the start of the next season, with any final decision resting on the player himself if a proposal is accepted in exchange for his services.
He previously said that leaving Liverpool so soon after his departure last summer felt unusual, telling the club website in his goodbye interview: “Obviously, it is strange, really, really strange, to no longer be a Liverpool player after six years spent at Anfield.”
“But of course I had a great time, an unbelievable time, and since my first day I really, really enjoyed training, playing, at Anfield especially and in front of these amazing supporters. Now it’s come to the end, so what can you say?”
Even if Mane is open to returning to Liverpool ahead of next season, there is no assurance that Jurgen Klopp would feel the same way, given the Senegal winger’s troubles at Bayern Munich in recent months. Since joining the German giants, he has only managed to score 12 goals in all competitions, and it appears that his heated argument with Sane earlier this year is still fresh in the memories of those in power at the Allianz Arena.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy recently claimed that Reds fans would welcome Mane back to Anfield if he returned this summer, but was quick to point out that Klopp should prioritize the addition of at least one new midfielder over anything else right now.
“I think the fans would take him, but you would have to get rid of someone,” Murphy told talkSPORT. “They have five forwards, or six even, and that is a huge chunk of their budget on a player and position they don’t need. They need midfielders, so I can’t see it.”
