Reece James responds to Graham Potter’s sack after Chelsea lost the game to Spurs
Reece James insists Graham Potter’s ability is ‘absolutely not questioned’ following Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Spurs on Sunday.
Spurs won despite Chelsea’s poor record, thanks to goals in the second half from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane.
Chelsea have now gone six games without a win and have suffered their third successive defeat in all competitions.
Pressure will mount on Potter’s position at Stamford Bridge, but James is certain that the former Brighton manager is the man for the job.
‘Nothing happens overnight,’ James told beIN Sport after Chelsea’s defeat to Spurs.
‘We don’t just wake up tomorrow and we’re out of the situation we’re in, it’s going to take weeks and months to get to where we’re meant to be.
‘But we’re all on the same page, we’re sticking together and that’s a big positive.’
When asked if Potter is as excellent as other Chelsea managers under whom he has played, James said, ‘Oh, for sure.
‘Everyone has witnessed what a great manager he is. That was evident while he was at Brighton, where they were in or near the top four.
‘His ability is undeniably impressive.’
He’s in a similar situation to us players in that we’re the ones out there on the field performing, so just as much criticism he receives, the players are also playing; we’re all in this together.
‘I think it’s hard to say, it’s not like we’re not trying, we’re giving it our all but results are simply not going our way at the moment.
‘It’s not like the players are sacking it, or anything like this, we’re working hard, it’s just results are not falling our way at the moment.’
