Pep Guardiola’s Transfer Plans Take a Hit After Rangers Disappointment: ‘We will not sell him
When Steven Gerrard was in charge of the Gers, Rangers wanted to sign Aaron Hickey, but just as the Ibrox club was let down by their attempt at a transfer at the time, it appears that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will also suffer a setback.
The Scottish Sun published an article in 2019 about Ross Wilson’s intentions to sign Hickey with Rangers in January 2020.
According to reports, Wilson was going to urge former Rangers manager Gerrard to offer £2 million for the Scotland full-back.
Hickey, who is now 20 years old, did not sign with the Rangers.
In the summer of 2020, the full-back relocated to Bologna.
Hickey then joined Brentford in the Premier League in the summer of 2022.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has taken notice of his remarkable performances for Brentford.
The Scottish Sun claimed on April 20, 2023, that City, the reigning champions, are interested in signing the 20-year-old full-back who represents Scotland internationally.
The full-back is reputedly worth £30 million to Brentford, but Bees boss Thomas Frank has officially stated that he won’t sell Hickey.
This suggests that City may be in for disappointment regarding Hickey, similar like Rangers in 2019.
According to Football Scotland, Thomas Frank stated regarding former Rangers target Aaron Hickey amid Manchester City rumors, “We will not sell him.He has only recently arrived.
“With all due respect, I think he’s a very good young player that I think has a fantastic future ahead of him.
“There needs to be a little bit more to get into the City team in terms of performances.
“I think he’s done well and I really like him. I think he can get up there.”
