Mason Mount will ‘push Manchester United player to quit’ as a trio ‘entices’ him to go.
Mason Mount has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, and his arrival might result in the departure of one of Erik ten Hag’s existing squad players.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Mason Mount may cause another player to depart as the Red Devils ramp up their pursuit of the Chelsea star. According to reports, United players are working hard to persuade Mount to move to Manchester, and if Mount does join at Old Trafford this summer, Scott McTominay may use the opportunity to quit his boyhood club in quest of regular first-team playing.
build has emerged as a key target for Erik ten Hag this summer, with a stunning £60 million deal likely to be on the cards as the Dutchman aims to build a title fight next season against rivals Manchester City.
Ten Hag is prioritizing the recruitment of a No. 9 and a central defender, but he is keen on bringing in Mount, which might force McTominay out, having tried to sign him once before in 2018 when he was Ajax manager following a successful loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem.
The Sun reports that the England international is ‘attracted to the thought’ of joining international teammates Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, and Harry Maguire at Old Trafford. And with Champions League football on offer at Manchester United next season, the offensive midfielder could be enticed to join the club.
The 24-year-old is poised to leave Chelsea this summer after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract, having rejected a seven-year deal and a one-year extension during negotiations with Todd Boehly.
Mount is now one of the lowest-paid players at Stamford Bridge, as the England international is still on the same £60,000-per-week contract he signed in 2019 when he was just breaking into the first squad.
Chelsea were still hoping to persuade Mount to stay, with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart holding fresh negotiations, with rumors of a £200,000-a-week contract on the table.
However, relations between the two parties are said to be at a ‘all-time low’ after Chelsea’s efforts to persuade Mount to sign an extension were rejected as an attempt to raise his value.
The Blues plan to cash in while Mount has 13 months left on his deal, which could entail selling to a Premier League opponent. United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City have all been linked, and a reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich has been suggested.
If United is successful in attracting Mount, it may persuade McTominay to quit. Following the signing of Casemiro last summer, the 26-year-old’s position has been reduced this season, with only 10 Premier League starts, while Marcel Sabitzer’s loan arrival in January has seen him fall further down the pecking order behind the Austrian and Fred.
According to the same report, the Scotland international is ‘on the radar’ of Newcastle and is valued at around £50 million by his club. Selling the midfielder would help fund the move for Mount, however United are unwilling to spend more than £60 million for the Champions League champion.
