Mason Mount signs £200,000-a-week contract after Liverpool agreement is hijacked
The Champions League is a “big factor” in Mason Mount’s choice to join Manchester United over Liverpool.
Mount has signed personal terms with the Red Devils, according to this website, but they have yet to agree on a cost with Chelsea.
According to a reliable source, Mount will earn roughly £200,000 per week at Old Trafford if a final arrangement is reached.
Following a breakdown in contract discussions, the England international is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
His current contract is slated to end in June 2024, and it is understood that Chelsea declined to give in to his wage demands and place him in the top earning category.
Mount presently earns £80,000 per week, according to FBRef.
The Blues want to give their stars longer-term contracts with lower earnings in order to minimize costs after a massive transfer investment in the 2022-23 season.
Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Arsenal have all been linked with Mount, but it appears that Manchester United are the closest to completing a deal.
The midfielder scored three goals in 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 season before being sidelined by injury.
He is also a fixture in the England squad, having made four appearances in the World Cup in Qatar as part of his 36 overall caps for the Three Lions.
Manchester United will play in the Champions League next season after finishing third in the 2022-23 season.
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag has previously stated that he intends to bring in another striker during the summer transfer window in order to decrease his reliance on top scorer Marcus Rashford.
