Marcus Rashford decides on Manchester United future as PSG eye spectacular summer swoop
Marcus Rashford has been in outstanding form for Manchester United this season, attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reports, Marcus Rashford has decided that staying at Manchester United is his preferred option. Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the England international, who has scored 28 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils this season. However, while the club is eager to sign him to a new contract, nothing has been signed as of yet.
Rashford was the hero for Manchester United against Brentford on Wednesday night, scoring the game’s only goal to give his team all three points.
According to the Daily Mail, despite PSG’s interest, the England international wants to stay at Old Trafford.
Rashford’s current contract, worth around £250,000 per week, is set to expire at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
And United is still working on a renewal in order to secure their talisman for many years to come.
Previously, it was reported that United may implement a ‘Cristiano Ronaldo rule,’ which would cap salaries at £200,000 per week.
But, despite his love for the club, it’s difficult to see Rashford staying if that happens.
Without the forward, United could have had a very different season under Ten Hag.
Many people were unsure what to expect from Rashford at the start of the season, especially given his struggles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last season.
Despite this, he has helped United win the Carabao Cup, compete for the top four, and remain in contention for the FA Cup and Europa League.
Rashford scored his 28th goal of the season against Brentford on Wednesday night.
That means he’s matched Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s total from the previous season, while Bruno Fernandes also had that total two years ago.
Rashford was overjoyed with his heroics and admitted that he was enjoying his football under Ten Hag.
“The main goal was to win, and we did so by playing much better football and out of possession,” said the attacker.
“This is the kind of performance you can build on.” It wasn’t easy or straightforward, but I’m pleased with the three points.
“They are difficult to break down because they defend well in groups of five or six players and you must wait for opportunities.
“It’s a very clever pass from Antony and it ends up a simple goal but it was quite tough to break them down.
“I’m enjoying myself, the main aim for me is just to keep trying to win football matches for the club and try and get as deep into the season as we can. we need to try and get as many points as we can.
“We know the two teams at the top are running away with it a little bit but it’s important for us and our own growth and development to keep winning games and see how many points we can finish on at the end of the season.”
As for Ten Hag, the United boss was full of praise for his No 10 after his goalscoring exploits.
“Very good but we can talk almost every game about it and when he is not in the game like on Sunday, it is no good for us,” said the 53-year-old.
“We have to bring him in the game but also he has to take responsibility and also other players.
“So I was really happy with the performance from Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcel Sabitzer because all game they were a threat and they can do it.
“The return of Anthony Martial can help us so we have options there.
“We didn’t get the second goal, life would have been easier but now you have to fight to the end.
“The passion and desire that was missing on Sunday, we showed today. We forgot our standards but we have to return to that if you want to be successful in the final stages of the season.
“This has to give us energy but we go again. Saturday is a big game again, it is going to be a hard game and we know we need energy to beat Everton.”
