Manchester United’s Top Summer Priority: Securing the Signature of Bayern Munich Star
Manchester United will prioritize the acquisition of Benjamin Pavard this summer.
According to L’Equipe (via Manchester Evening News), Manchester United’s primary objective this summer is to capture Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.
According to the rumor, if the Red Devils sign the 2018 World Cup winner, Erik ten Hag will play him in central defense.
Pavard is also capable of playing as a fullback, although United consider him as a centre-back signing this summer.
According to Mirror, the French international has opted to leave Munich. His current contract with the company expires next summer. Bayern would like to trade the former Stuttgart player now rather than let him leave for free next year. Liverpool is interested in him as well.
After a sluggish start, ten Hag stayed with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in central defense and reaped the benefits for the majority of the season before they were injured.
Other choices are Harry Maguire, who is expected to go, and Victor Lindelof, who may ponder his future at the end of the season.
So, if United are to compete for the biggest trophies under 10 Hag, they must sign quality players like Pavard. The Frenchman not only strengthens their central defense but also their fullback position.
The 27-year-old is a technically excellent player with strong speed to match the runs of opposing forwards. He understands the game well, is strong in the air, and can shift positions in-game.
Furthermore, the Frenchman has played in the biggest game possible (the 2018 World Cup final). With Bayern, he won numerous awards and league titles. He’d bring that winning mindset as well as the ability to handle pressure under severe conditions.
