Manchester United to Face Fulham Without Injured Anthony Martial and Antony
Erik ten Hag has provided an update on the injuries of Anthony Martial and Antony before the Man United vs Fulham game. The two players were absent from the Reds’ triumph over Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has acknowledged that it’s improbable for Anthony Martial and Antony to play against Fulham in the upcoming match.
The Reds will confront their Premier League counterparts in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford on Sunday, which is their final game before the international break. The team will aim to make it to Wembley again this season, where the semi-finals and final of the competition will be held.
United successfully progressed to the quarter-finals of the Europa League by defeating La Liga team Real Betis 5-1 on aggregate, and will next play against fellow Spanish side, Sevilla.
However, they were unable to include the attacking pair of Martial and Antony in the Spain trip, with the Brazilian player absent due to illness, while the French striker wasn’t deemed fit enough to participate despite resuming training.
Ten Hag was asked about the two absentees during his pre-Fulham press conference on Friday. He suggested they are doubts for the clash at the weekend.
“So we have to talk about [it] and I think Anthony Martial will not be available and Antony dos Santos, we have to see how he will progress,” said Ten Hag.
Even though Casemiro will be absent due to suspension, Ten Hag has received good news with the return of loanee Marcel Sabitzer, who made his comeback after a short break on Thursday.
Ten Hag further stated that the team has managed to perform well in Casemiro’s absence during various matches such as Arsenal and Leeds. However, he acknowledged that he wants Casemiro to be available as he has a significant impact on the team’s gameplay.
In addition to Casemiro’s suspension, the Reds will also be without Alejandro Garnacho, Donny van de Beek, and Christian Eriksen, all of whom are currently sidelined due to injuries.
