Man Utd’s Pursuit of Defensive Reinforcement: Kim Min-jae Emerges as ‘Plan B’ Amidst Transfer Talks with Agent
Manchester United have reportedly been ‘in communication’ with Napoli defender Kim Min-jae’s agent about a possible move to Old Trafford this summer.
United have been extensively linked with a move for the South Korean international, who helped Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years this season.
He has been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League after making 45 appearances for the Italian club across all competitions.
According to the Italian outlet Calciomercato, Kim has a €60 million (£52 million) release clause in his Napoli contract that can only be used between July 1 and July 15, meaning clubs may only sign him for that amount during a rigorous two-week timeframe.
Newcastle have also been linked with a bid for the 26-year-old, who is claimed to have said farewell to his Napoli colleagues in preparation for a move to England.
Kim is not anticipated to return to Naples, according to movers who came at his home on Monday afternoon.
If United fails to sign the defender this summer, Erik ten Hag has found a “plan B.”
What is Manchester United’s backup plan?
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Kim is United’s’main aim’ this summer, but they will scout the French market for alternatives if they don’t acquire him.
“Manchester United have Kim Min-jae on their list since October and remains the main target. Release clause, only valid in July as United are in contact with agents; Newcastle are informed too”, tweeted Romano on Wednesday morning.
“Understand Man Utd are also monitoring the French market for plan B options.”
If the Red Devils sign Kim, Ten Hag will surely devote his entire attention to recruiting a new striker, which is their top target in the transfer window.
