Liverpool plot shock €80m player sale as Jurgen Klopp ‘chooses’ to ‘snatch’ Serie A star as replacement
As they ponder selling Mohamed Salah, Liverpool are allegedly interested in signing Juventus forward Federico Chiesa in the coming months.
The Reds have struggled this season and are currently in the Premier League’s mid-table positions.
Several of their players have struggled since challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title in 2021/22. Salah is one of them, as he has not been as productive this term as he usually is.
Last year, the forward was linked with a move away before signing a contract extension. His previous contract was set to end in 2023, however he is now signed until 2025.
Salah has grabbed seven goals and four assists in the Premier League from his 19 appearances and Calciomercato are reporting that Jurgen Klopp has ‘not been fully convinced’ by the Liverpool star this season.
The forward’s recent performances have Klopp “crazy with de8light,” and Liverpool is “seriously considering” selling him while his value is still high.
PSG, a Ligue 1 powerhouse, has been cited as a possible destination for Salah, with ‘no less than €80m required to reach a deal’ with Liverpool.
According to the source, this money will be used to assist Liverpool sign Chiesa, with Klopp already ‘deciding’ that he wants to’snatch’ him from Serie A giants Juventus.
They go on to say that Chiesa “may not despise such an enticing destination,” and that a price of €60 million is expected to be required to entice Juventus to sell. Though it is noted that “a few more promises would be required” to close the purchase.
Liverpool and Juventus have a ‘excellent working relationship,’ according to Calciomercato, after the English club signed Arthur Melo on loan last year. This may result in a “very quick opening” of talks.
Chiesa shined for Italy as they won the 2021 European Championships, however his career was recently halted due to an anterior cruciate injury. In November 2022, he will be fully fit for Juventus.
The 25-year-old is currently being eased back into action and has scored three goals in eight appearances since his return.
Calciomercato is known for making ridiculous statements, and this article is no exception.
There is no doubt that Chiesa is a brilliant talent and he could well end up moving to the Premier League sooner rather than later given Juventus’ financial troubles and recent points deduction.
However, Liverpool are well covered in that part of the pitch, and even though his form has fallen this season, it is difficult to imagine them letting Salah leave so soon after signing an extension.
