Kroenkes’ New Role Confirmed Amidst Revelations of £133m Transfer Mistake
The Kroenkes, who own Arsenal, have faced significant backlash previously, and now it has been revealed that they made a transfer mistake worth £133m. However, despite these controversies, their relationship with the club seems to be solid, as Arsenal is currently performing well in the Premier League.
Despite their current success in the Premier League, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta is focused on the team’s upcoming Europa League match against Sporting, as they aim to advance to the quarterfinals. Sporting held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw in their previous encounter, which was an exciting match with both teams exchanging the lead. While Arsenal is doing well in the domestic league, performing well in the Europa League would be a significant accomplishment.
However, Arsenal is also aware of the challenges of balancing the demands of European and domestic football, and Arteta may be cautious in selecting his strongest lineup for the match against Sporting.
The ownership structure at Arsenal has undergone changes as majority owner Stan Kroenke and his son Josh have been given new titles in the boardroom. They will now serve as co-chairs, while Tim Lewis, an existing director, will take on the role of executive vice-chair. In a statement, Stan Kroenke said that this change is a natural progression in their efforts to drive Arsenal forward and demonstrates their family’s ongoing dedication to the club.
“Stability in football has never been more important as we move past the pandemic, and we believe this is the perfect time to formalise these roles. Our objectives and ambition will never waver – to field teams that compete for trophies at the highest level and lead our club in a way that inspires our passionate supporters around the world.”
Arsenal reportedly missed out on signing Victor Osimhen, who is currently valued at €150million (£133m), for free six years ago. The Nigerian striker has been in excellent form this season, scoring 19 goals in 21 Serie A appearances and attracting attention from top clubs around the world. However, in 2016, Osimhen chose to sign for Wolfsburg in Germany over a potential move to Arsenal. While he acknowledged that Arsenal is a great team for young players, he believed that Wolfsburg would provide the best platform for his professional development.
