Kai Havertz of Chelsea was chastised for ‘doing nothing’ and’seeing off two managers.’
The actor has received widespread criticism for his performances this season.
Chelsea forward Kai Havertz has been chastised for “doing nothing” to help his team halt their worrying slide down the table. Graham Potter’s team has been in disarray since returning from the Qatar World Cup, winning only twice and scoring six goals in 12 games.
Havertz has started all but one of Chelsea’s matches throughout that period, contributing only two goals. And pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has been unimpressed with Havertz’s performances, blaming the German international for much of the team’s dismal form.
Former Aston Villa captain Agbonlahor accused the 23-year-old of “seeing off” previous managers Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard on talkSPORT, alleging the big-money signing had done nothing to merit a starting spot. “Consider Havertz. I mean, he sent two managers packing. “He’s not doing anything,” said Agbonlahor.
“He’s not a No 9, he’s not a No 10. He’s not holding the ball up, he’s not scoring goals.”
Havertz, who was signed for about £72 million in September 2020, had his best moment the following spring, when he scored the game-winning goal against Manchester City in the Champions League final. His career, however, has since stalled under three successive management regimes.
In 32 appearances this season, the German has only six goals and one assist to his name. Considering Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes this season – only six teams have scored fewer in the Premier League – he has failed to fill the hole and reach the heights that many expected.
Havertz was not alone in feeling the former striker’s fury, as he afterwards ripped into the attitude of many of his teammates. “The greatest problem for me when I see Chelsea is some of the players’ body language,” he continued.
“Even Enzo Fernandez, he’s been outstanding since he signed for Chelsea, but even he sort of looked a bit fed up with his team-mates and the lack of connection between them. For me, these players look like they have a lack of confidence, lack of chemistry between them.
“[Ruben] Loftus-Cheek hasn’t performed for ages for Chelsea. Some of these players need to get their finger out and start putting in performances and not just blaming the manager for everything.”
While pressure continues to mount on Potter to turn the tide at Stamford Bridge, Agbonlahor was slightly more forgiving towards the Chelsea manager. “I think he [Graham Potter] is under pressure, but we do not know what the owner wants,” he continued.
“Give him until the end of the season, he gets a good pre-season, and gets rid of the deadwood, the players not good enough, then he can work with the players in pre-season.
“Then after ten games in the season, if Chelsea are not up there fighting for the title, then you get rid of him. These players have a lack of confidence and chemistry between them.”
