Ian Wright Discusses Arsenal’s Summer Recruitment Plans and Trossard’s Exceptional Performance
During an episode of the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright talked about the possibility of Arsenal needing to make significant financial investments this summer to maintain their performance level. While discussing the team’s summer recruitment plans with his co-host, they debated whether Arsenal actually needed to spend a large amount of money. They cited Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix as examples of players who were expensive purchases but wouldn’t have necessarily improved Arsenal. Wright elaborated on Mudryk, stating that he doesn’t think the Ukrainian would have been able to replicate Leandro Trossard’s success at Arsenal if he had joined the team during the January transfer window. It’s worth noting that Mudryk was linked with Arsenal during this period.
Mudryk couldn’t do what Trossard has
The pundit spoke about the Chelsea winger.
“I don’t know if they have to (spend big), they swerved Joao Felix and he’s not doing that well at Chelsea, they didn’t get Mudryk and that might be the best thing that happened to them,” Wright’s co-host said.
“I don’t care what anyone says, Mudryk, and we’ve seen up to this point, he wouldn’t have done what Trossard has done what Trossard has been doing up to this point,’ Wright said.
“Mudryk, for his own sake, I do feel sorry for him because I don’t know if there’s anyone in the history of football whose had to have a transfer of that amount of money with so much politicalness around him. It’s almost unfair.”
Trossard has been phenomenal, and Wright is correct that Mudryk would not have been able to achieve what Trossard has done for Arsenal. However, there is no shame in that for Mudryk. Trossard has exceeded expectations since joining Arsenal and has been exceptional in almost every match he’s played. He recently set a record by providing three first-half assists against Fulham. While Mudryk is undoubtedly a talented player, it’s fair to say that Arsenal made the right decision in signing Trossard instead.
