Former Manchester United Ace Gears Up for Managerial Role with a ‘Tottenham-esque’ Approach
Dwight Yorke, a former Manchester United player, has managed only Macarthur FC in his managerial career.
Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke claims he will be ready to take over as manager of Tottenham Hotspur in the next couple of years.
The 51-year-old was previously linked with the Aberdeen job following the sacking of Jim Goodwin in January, but the Scottish club ultimately chose to stick with Barry Robson until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Yorke still hopes to manage in the Premier League in the coming years.
Yorke has managed only Macarthur FC in Australia since retiring from playing, winning 10 of his 18 matches in charge. After leaving that position in January, the former Reds player is now looking for a top-flight job in England.
“I’m at an early stage in my coaching career and there will be a time and place for me to do that once I make my way up the ladder,” he told Sports Lens. “My time will come, but not yet, I have to be sensible in my decision making and I have to admit the Premier League is not quite for me yet.
“In maybe two or three years, I’ll try to be in the category to get such a job like the Tottenham one now.”
Tottenham are looking for a new manager for next season after Antonio Conte left the club last week. The club has been linked with former manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently fired by Bayern Munich, is also thought to be a target.
When discussing the managerial situation at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Yorke stated that the club’s next appointment will be determined by their performance in Champions League qualification.
He added: “A manager coming in will want to come once the fourth spot is secure, managers are probably waiting and don’t want to touch that job until the end of the season.
“But I don’t think many managers can turn their nose up to Tottenham because they’re an attractive club to go to. Managers will want to challenge themselves and try to break the curse of no silverware for years. They’ll have managers lined up for the job.”
Yorke made 152 appearances for United during his time at Old Trafford, registering 66 goals and 31 assists.
