Former Chelsea Boss Turns Down Opportunity to Return to Club Despite Offer
Chelsea will soon announce their next permanent manager, who is widely likely to be Mauricio Pochettino.
This isn’t finalized yet, but one thing is certain: Chelsea’s new manager will not be Jose Mourinho returning for a third term at the club, according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who tweeted the following last night.
🚨José Mourinho : le PSG accélère🇵🇹

This effectively means that PSG is in advanced talks to hire Mourinho as their next manager and that he has rejected Chelsea’s efforts. He also stated that he would only take offers from PSG or Real Madrid.
Personally, I find this VERY difficult to believe; I don’t believe Mourinho would turn down the opportunity to return to Chelsea, and I also find it difficult to believe that Chelsea has made any recent advances to sign him. Of course, it’s possible, but in my opinion, this one is unlikely.
Why Jose Mourinho wore a wire to record referee in Serie A
If you were to ask who the most interesting and theatrical manager in football is, you might say Jose Mourinho. Not only would you be forgiven, but you’d most likely be correct.
Mourinho may not be managing one of Europe’s premier teams at the moment, but that doesn’t mean he’s acting normally. While he has been mainly successful, he has had a turbulent time in Serie A over the last two seasons.
His most recent shenanigans came against Monza on Wednesday night, when the Portuguese coach decided to wear a wire during the game, something he only revealed after the game as he went on an epic rant about how poor this particular referee is at his job.
Here’s why Mourinho wore a wire and some of the other dramatic events he’s been a part of this season.
The referee in question for Monza’s 1-1 draw with Roma on Wednesday night was Daniele Chiffi, a Serie A regular who is frequently assigned to the most important games. This season, he has taken command of 13 Serie A matches, including AC Milan’s 3-2 win over Inter, Roma’s 0-1 win over Atalanta, Atalanta’s 2-3 win over Inter, Juventus’ 4-2 win over Torino, and Inter’s 0-1 win over Juventus.
Chiffi has only officiated one Giallorossi game before the encounter against Monza, a Roma defeat over Atalanta. Roma felt they should have got a penalty for a foul on Nicolo Zaniolo in that Atalanta encounter, and while it is unclear what Mourinho said to the referees, he was issued a red card by Chiffi, and the coach was enraged.
Mady Camara was awarded a second yellow card late in the game in the Monza encounter for a challenge where it was evident he had stumbled rather than going in late. Mourinho expressed his feelings about Chiffi after the game, stating that he had worn a wire for his own protection.
“I’m not stupid, you know,” Mourinho said in his press conference. “Today, I went to the game with a microphone. I recorded everything. From the moment I left the locker room to the moment I returned. I protected myself.
“He is the worst referee I have met in my life. He is the worst. Technically he’s horrible. Zero empathy. Zero communication. Zero awareness. A second yellow to a guy who slips in the 96th minute…I stopped working [talking] 20-30 minutes from the end because I knew he would give me a red card for anything. I didn’t give him the opportunity, I decided no, that’s enough.”
