Chelsea Update: Kai Havertz Set to Stay at Stamford Bridge This Summer

According to transfer expert Dean Jones, Chelsea forward Kai Havertz is anticipated to stay at the club during the summer transfer window.

Has Havertz had a successful season?

The German has enjoyed a rollercoaster ride at Stamford Bridge since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final victory over Manchester City. His performances have occasionally been deceptive, and this season hasn’t been his best at the club.

Havertz has only scored seven goals in 33 Premier League games this season, topping Chelsea’s scoring lists but falling short in the final third. His performances have emphasized the need of the Blues bringing in a natural striker at the conclusion of the season, potentially allowing him to play off him in what may be a favored No.10 role.

The 23-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2025, but it’s unclear whether he’ll be in west London for the 2023/24 season.

Will Havertz continue to play for Chelsea this summer?

Jones gave an update on Havertz’s condition to Give Me Sport, saying he believes he will still be a Chelsea player at the start of next season:

“In Lampard’s time at the club, Havertz hasn’t been entirely convincing.” There is still some doubt over whether he will return to Chelsea for the upcoming season. At the present, the signs indicate that he will most likely stay.”

There is no doubt that Havertz has underperformed in a Chelsea shirt at times, especially given his big reputation when he joined, but he has had a few positives. His aforementioned Champions League final goal was obviously big, but 32 goals and 15 assists in 137 Blues games is still a decent return for someone who isn’t a true striker.

At 23, he is still a young player, which can be easily overlooked, and he should develop into a more well-rounded footballer in the future years, especially if Mauricio Pochettino clicks with him and the proper players are employed around him.

However, it’s safe to say he has a huge amount of improvements to make, as he was slammed on a number of different occasions for performances since joining. With worlds such as “embarrassment”, “not doing anything”, “not a number nine” and a “disgrace”.
