Chelsea are planning another recruitment team addition after the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
Andy Cousins, who previously worked for Stoke City and Manchester City, is poised to join the club’s scouting squad as the club continues to restructure its operations.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly said the club is planning another recruitment team addition following Mauricio Pochettino’s statement.
Following a dismal season, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is working to overhaul the club’s operations.
Chelsea has formally announced the signing of “world-class coach” Mauricio Pochettino and plans to expand their recruitment department in preparation for a busy summer of transfer activity.
Andy Cousins is in talks to join their scouting team and work alongside Joe Shields, who was recruited from Southampton and now serves as co-director of recruitment and talent.
Cousins announced his departure from Stoke City, where he was the head of football operations, in March. Cousins has served as a lead analyst for Northern Ireland and Manchester City.
A deal has not yet been reached with Chelsea, who have already brought in technical director Christopher Vivell and co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, with the latter two taking overall responsibility for the club’s football operations.
Pochettino’s presence, of course, is crucial, with the 51-year-old signing a two-year contract with an option for the club to extend it for another year.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager will be joined by his trusted team of Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez, and Pochettino’s son Sebastiano, all of whom worked with him at PSG and, in the case of the first three, at Tottenham.
Hiring those quintet was a no-brainer for Pochettino, with Chelsea confirming the agreement the day following the end of a disastrous Premier League season.
Chelsea owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, José E Feliciano, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss stated in the announcement: “The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the board is proud of.” We are overjoyed that Mauricio is joining Chelsea. Mauricio is an elite coach with a proven track record. We are all excited to have him on board.”
Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling praised Pochettino’s appointment, stating, “He will have the personality that everyone will respect.” That is exactly what we require. Someone in command.”
With 12 first-team additions at a cost of more than £500 million in the first two transfer windows, Chelsea’s objective is now cutting out their bloated roster while also making it gel under Pochettino.
The owners praised the Argentine’s “high-energy and eye-catching style,” as well as his “reputation for assisting young players in realizing their full potential.”
Chelsea are expected to prioritize departures over additions this summer, despite they are heavily associated with Uruguay international holding midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who now plays for Sporting in Portugal.
