Arteta’s Arsenal Secure a Major Signing as Ornstein Confirms Agreement with Strike Midfielder!
Arsenal have a ‘agreement in place’ over a midfield deal David Ornstein deemed ‘significant’, and the Gunners have successfully fended off many rivals in the process.
Arsenal are now on course to clinch their first Premier League title since 2004. The Gunners enjoy a two-point advantage over nearest competitor Man City. Mikel Arteta’s team also have a game in hand.
But, to guarantee the current campaign isn’t a one and done, the north Londoners have been actively trying to sign their most crucial talents down to long-term deals.
Gabriel Martinelli extended his stay till 2027 on February 3. The Athletic led the way last week when highlighting two-time and reigning Arsenal Player of the Year, Bukayo Saka, had struck a ‘agreement in principle’ over his own deal.
Centre-half William Saliba is next on the agenda from the senior squad, albeit according the Athletic’s David Ornstein, a budding youth star has joined the party.
Writing for the Athletic, Ornstein said ‘Arsenal have an agreement in place’ with 16-year-old midfielder, Myles Lewis-Skelly.
The kid has been a key component in Arsenal’s march to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals this term. But, Lewis-Skelly’s present deal was slated to expire at season’s conclusion.
Ornstein observed the teen prodigy has drawn widespread interest from rival clubs. Yet, an agreement to leave the vultures empty-handed has been forged.
Lewis-Skelly will now sign a two-year extension on scholarship conditions. After the term expires, a ‘longer and more lucrative professional contract’ can be inked.
Manager Arteta has already shown faith in the young midfielder during the current campaign. During the World Cup break, the Spaniard deployed Lewis-Skelly as a second-half substitute against Lyon in a friendly match.
Another indication of how highly he is regarded is that Lewis-Skelly is expected to play a significant role for England’s Under-17s at the U17 European Championships this summer.
The Arsenal star initially turned out for the Under-17s as a 15-year-old and is ‘tipped to shine’ in the finals.
