Arsenal’s Pursuit of ‘Powerful’ Right-Back: Fabrizio Romano Provides Update with Former Gunner’s Approval
Arsenal have been keeping an eye on Real Valladolid midfielder Iván Fresneda for some time. According to Fabrizio Romano’s most recent transfer updates, the Gunners are keeping a close eye on the 18-year-old but will face competition from Borussia Dortmund.
There has been no ‘concrete negotiation’ at this point, according to Romano, and the battle for Fresneda’s signature remains open. Arsenal and Dortmund have been linked with the right-back since January, but he has two years left on his current deal in Spain, so there is no rush for Valladolid to sell.
During the 2022/23 season, Fresneda made 22 LaLiga games and also played for the Spanish U19 international squad. He has a lot of first team experience despite being only 18 years old, and he has pleased Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit.
When Arsenal’s initial interest in the right-back was revealed, the former midfielder, who spent three years with the Gunners, spoke to Sporting Post.
“He’s powerful and has good technique. He gets forward well and has great energy,” Petit said of Fresneda. He also praised Mikel Arteta’s management and his growing of the young players at the club.
“I think Arteta and his team understand they have a jewel in their hands with this young team and they represent the future of the Premier League. They have improved so much.”
Fresneda is also a versatile player, having played at center-back as well as on both the left and right sides of the midfield this season.
Arsenal currently only has Ben White available at right-back because Takehiro Tomiyasu is out injured. They may also lose some alternatives in midfield, with Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey potentially leaving.
