Arsenal Star Contemplates Joining PSG: Insights from a Journalist
William Saliba is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal, but he’s had another idea in the back of his mind all season.
Indeed, according to Ben Jacobs of The Done Deal Show, the ‘outstanding’ defender has been considering a return to France, specifically PSG, at times this season.
After being out in the cold for so long, Arsenal found it difficult to convince Saliba that the Emirates was the best place for him, according to Jacobs, but after becoming a key player under Mikel Arteta this season, the defender is set to extend his contract.
Saliba was considering joining PSG.
Jacobs revealed his knowledge of Saliba.
“His form has skyrocketed, and how difficult has it been to persuade the player that Arsenal is a better option than returning to France, where he excelled with Marseille?” PSG were looking for a centre-back, they have Skriniar coming in and will want one more. He only lives 6 kilometers from the center of Paris in his family home. You can see why the thought ‘go to France, they’ll want you and pay you handsomely’ had crossed his mind earlier in the season. “But now, everyone is on the same page,” Jacobs said.
“Saliba has proven to be the most difficult. It was always behind in terms of the roadmap, but according to people I talk to, and they’ve been saying this for months, Saliba, Saka, and Martinelli will all be extended.”
I don’t blame him.
In all honesty, it’s difficult to blame Saliba for considering leaving Arsenal at the start of this season.
A player of his caliber should have been brought into the team much sooner, and while Arsenal’s patience paid off in the end, they risked upsetting, and ultimately losing, the centre-back by not giving him opportunities.
Fortunately, everything worked out in the end, and Saliba is set to be a key player at the Emirates for many years to come.
