Arsenal Receives Thomas Partey Injury Update as Ghana Leaves Star Out of Starting XI
Arsenal hoped that Thomas Partey would be able to recover from his previous injuries during the international break.
Thomas Partey was left out of Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to’small’ injury problems, according to manager Chris Hughton. The Arsenal star has recently struggled with fitness issues, but he chose to represent the Black Stars during the international break to aid his recovery.
The midfielder has been a crucial part of Arsenal’s success so far this season, with his work in the center of the park frequently being overlooked due to the success of attacking talents such as Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.
Partey has missed five games so far this season, but with only ten games remaining, Mikel Arteta will be hoping that the ex-Atletico Madrid star is not forced to miss any more.
The midfielder traveled to Ghana with Arsenal’s top performance physio Simon Murphy to ensure he stays in good shape during the break, but Arteta’s plan does not appear to have worked.
Partey started the first leg of the two-leg qualifier against Angola but was forced to sit out the second due to an injury. Hughton, the Black Stars’ manager, revealed, “Thomas [Partey] has some minor issues.” We thought it was too risky to start him [against Angola].”
The statement provides little information about the extent of the injury, but some fans are concerned that it is serious given that Partey did not even enter the game as a substitute.
With Arsenal leading the Premier League by eight points, any minor injury could jeopardize the north London club’s title hopes. Former Arsenal star Ian Wright stated that any type of injury to Partey will have a significant impact on his team, but he is confident that Arteta has enough depth at his disposal to cope, explaining: “There is no nervousness up until now, but you don’t want to lose someone like Thomas Partey for any amount of time.” William Saliba was killed. However, they appear to have taken the hits up to this point.
“That’s one thing people criticised Arsenal about and said, “let’s see when you get injuries to your key players” – we’ve had injuries to all of our main players, and still amongst it. It’s now how they finish off with the pressure that is going to ramp up for these last games with the injuries that may come.”
