A Chelsea player who cost £22 million and has not played since before the World Cup was seen back in the first team training today, as shown in a video posted on Sky Sports’ Twitter page. The goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, who is 31 years old, has been absent from the pitch due to a variety of reasons. Although an injury has prevented him from training for most of this period, it is possible that even if he were fit, he would not have played.
Graham Potter, who is now the manager at Stamford Bridge, seems to have a stronger preference for Kepa Arrizabalaga as the goalkeeper. Kepa has been playing in the first team for an extended period, which is a significant improvement from his previous struggles at the club. Since Edouard Mendy’s arrival, he has mostly been on the bench behind the Senegalese goalkeeper, who was purchased for £22 million from France.

There have been recent reports that the club is more willing to sell Mendy than Kepa. However, Mendy’s return to training is a positive development for Potter, as competition is always beneficial for any position.
Despite Edouard Mendy’s return, it is unlikely that Kepa Arrizabalaga will be dropped from the first team due to his impressive performances in recent months. Kepa was seen making a series of excellent saves in the Champions League less than a week ago, contributing to Chelsea’s remarkable comeback against Borussia Dortmund.
Mendy’s contract will expire in less than two years, and his future with the club is expected to be resolved at the end of the season. According to reports, he is not currently in negotiations to extend his contract with Chelsea and is therefore likely to leave the club this summer.
